Meet Our Employees – Michael Wallace

My journey begins as an English teacher followed by 7 years of service as a police officer for an operational international cooperation police unit when I moved to a different department in which I was responsible for receiving and taking care of guests of the Chief Commander of the Regional Police Headquarters in Krakow. I aimed to make a change in careers and that’s how I eventually got in touch with Wave Growth.

I was asked if I’d like the idea of joining a team of high-performers in a start-up environment and obviously I was very interested. Just like any other start-up, the environment was quite “dynamic”. Everyone here worked tirelessly on setting up the procedures and processes that will benefit anyone who aspires to join the company in the future. Another thing I really appreciate is the constant buzz around the office coming from people discussing how we can improve our delivery and solve customer needs. To be a part of that is awesome.

The IT-industry and the tech-sector, especially when you don’t have a background in it, was a bit daunting to grasp at times, but eventually I was able to connect many dots and slowly but surely I began to understand how the industry works and how we as Wave Growth are able to help clients in a unique yet effective way. Every day I learn something new and it’s a very valuable and inspiring environment which drives and motivates me each day.

If you asked me, “what is the most valuable thing you learned so far” it would be not to just pick up the phone but knowing how to conduct a fruitful phone conversation. Many of the people we talk to over the phone get similar phone calls quite regularly. However, it’s the art of conveying you’re not there just to sell something but that you’re actually able to cater to the client’s needs for sound software development and solve their problems in the process.

Learning how to do this is something Wave Growth heavily invests in. There are a lot of experts walking around and everyone is willing to pitch their idea on how you might do it better. It really is an amazing team to work with and I’m very optimistic about what the future holds for us especially because of the way we work. It’s unique, effective, and benefits many great software houses as well as companies that need a rigorous approach towards software development.

Outside of work, I am currently working closely together with an old professor of mine to build a web application that assists people who want to learn English phonetics. It’s still in the ideation stage but the fundamentals are there. It’s a great project that hopefully one day will flourish and expand to something that will be valuable to those who wish to learn British English phonetics.

I’m also in two bands, HimAir and Voodoo Seeds. If you’re into acoustic rock and alternative music, you should check them out.
